Book Publishing

If you have ever felt compelled to write and share your story, knowledge, experiences, accomplishments, poems, or creativity to a wide audience, you’ve probably thought of writing a bookThe question is, what’s next?

Have you ever heard the quote, “When eating an elephant take one bite at a time.”? We work with you from start to finish – one bite at a time!1

Before you start!

There are three things to have clear for yourself right up front:

  1. Why are you writing your book?
  2. What is your Vision,
  3. How will you measure success?

To best help you, whoever you turn to for editing and publishing support needs to know all three.

  • Your Why is uniquely yours, and it can vary from wanting to share your story or experience, wanting to educate or entertain others, wanting credibility in your profession, to much more.
  • Your Vision can be as varied as your Why, and it can impact whether you publish an e-book, print book, or both. It also affects how you will want to promote and distribute your book.
  • Lastly, getting clear on how you will measure success helps everyone work to the same objective. Without a plan, you and your support team won’t know if you made it!

If any or all of these aren’t totally clear for you yet, that’s okay. We can help you with that as part of our complementary consultation.

Okay, now you’re ready to go!

A good place to start is with a manuscript evaluation. To understand what kinds of editing and services might be recommended, we read significant portions of the manuscript and then produce a written assessment. We will be honest and candid about its strengths and weaknesses, and give you constructive suggestions on the services we provide that will significantly improve the content. It is our goal to have your voice heard by the reader, as you intend.

Our Process: From Draft to Published

Here is a quick list with the bite-size pieces that can be included in bringing your work from draft to published. Please remember that we will work with you to customize what you want and need.

  • Editing – There are five types of editing: developmental, stylistic, content, copy, and proofreading. The goal is to maximize coherence and flow.
  • Copyright and Permissions – Do you need help sourcing your facts or getting permission for quotes? We will advise where this might be needed, and we can also manage it for you.
  • Bibliography, References, and Index – These are three things to think about your and your book’s credibility.
  • Illustrations – We partner with illustrators and graphic designers to identify and address your needs.
  • Print, e-Book, or Both? While many people still love the touch-and-feel experience of reading print books, millions have turned to e-readers for their reading enjoyment. We partner with printers and we handle e-book publishing and digital distribution in-house.

No matter where you are at in terms of a book, from idea to finished manuscript, we are delighted to talk with you.

What Our Clients Say

“Kim is a wonder when it comes to creating or improving our Power Points.  I appreciate that I can give her a sense of tone or style (professional and serious; funny; tailored to engineers) and she finds the right graphics and look that works.  She has a great ability to clean up our slides – make them easy to view and easy to comprehend.  Other times she builds the presentation from scratch – I provide her content for each slide and she makes it happen.  Everything comes back improved and with a minimal of supervision.  She is a great secret weapon for our organization – effective in her time and able to make us look much better than if we were left to our own devices!”

“With the introduction of the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) July 1st, 2014, it was important for us to ensure…compliance. Tandem Thinkers designed and delivered a creative and effective seminar to help us understand both the intent, and the protocols, for ensuring compliance.”
